What kind of cookbook is A Well Seasoned Kitchen?

How is different from other cookbooks?

Written by Sally and Lee Clayton, Roper A Well-Seasoned Kitchen is more than a collection of 186 recipes – it is a treasury of ideas, menus and best-loved meals for all cooks who cherish creating delicious fare to nourish relationships with family and friends.

The book is a testament to the special bond shared by mothers and daughters. It was initially conceived as a project for Lee to engage her mother as she began to suffer the effects of osteoporosis and early-stage memory loss. The result is a collection of recipes that reflect the special bond created through food and gatherings. Also making the book unique is that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association Colorado Chapter (www.alz.org/co).

Who are the authors of A Well Seasoned Kitchen?

The authors, Sally Clayton and Lee Clayton Roper, are home gourmet cooks who created A Well-Seasoned Kitchen to celebrate their special bond with food at its epicenter.

Sally was the first in her neighborhood to add a food processor and microwave to her gadget repertoire (long before most has even heard of them). She was raised in Kentucky, inspired by parents who frequently entertained and a mother who loved to cook. After she was married Sally took to cooking herself, gracefully moving from meatloaf to Boeuf Bourguignon quickly earning a reputation as a talented cook and gracious hostess. Sally inspired her daughter, Lee, to hold her first dinner party at the age of 16. Today, Lee is also an accomplished amateur cook, regularly finding opportunities to host family and friends for casual but elegant dinner parties.

Sadly, Sally passed just as the cookbook entered its final phase. It is written in her honor.

What inspired the book?

A Well-Seasoned Kitchen is a loving collaboration of mother and daughter, Sally Clayton and Lee Clayton Roper, everyday home gourmet cooks who are known for their effortless style and smart sensibility when it comes to home cooking and entertaining. When Sally began to suffer from the early effects of osteoporosis and early-stage memory loss, it was natural for Lee to engage her mother through family memories of their shared times in the kitchen. The result of their efforts is a cookbook full of classic recipes for today’s contemporary cook.

A Well-Seasoned Kitchen features more than 180 recipes, planning menus and helpful tips along with mouth watering photos of some of Sally and Lee’s favorite dishes. You’ll also enjoy the make-ahead instructions as well as high altitude cooking adjustments.

Laurie Smith is a renowned food photographer whose distinctive style of capturing images by natural light have landed her photos in some of the world’s most prominent food publications including Food & Wine, Saveur and others. Erica McNeish is a professional chef and food stylist who maintains a high-profile client list. Together, they have collaborated on several award-winning cookbooks that have earned the coveted James Beard and IACP awards.

When ordering on line: Yes, that discount coupon can be used when you order the book on www.seasonedkitchen.com. Just enter the code in the promotion code box that you will see on the ordering screen.

When ordering by phone: Yes, that discount coupon can be used when we place your order.

I’m sorry, but coupons are not valid when ordering via Amazon.com.

Can I get the book at a local book store?  I’d like to see it before I buy one.

The book is available in various retail stores. They are listed on the website.

I need to get the book by the day after tomorrow. What are my shipping options?

We have a variety of shipping options to insure that you book arrives in time.

Our preferred shipper is UPS. We will ship ground, 3-day, 2-day and overnight.

  • Orders to P.O. boxes or military P.O. boxes(APO/FPO) must be sent USPS; UPS does not deliver to any P.O. boxes.
  • Orders received Monday - Friday by 2:00 pm Mountain Time are shipped out the same day.  Orders received after 2:00 pm Mountain Time M - F or on holidays are shipped next business day. Orders received over the weekend are shipped on Monday.

How do I know that my order is on its way?

If my daughter doesn’t like the book can I return it?

If for any reason you are not satisfied with your purchase, you may return it for a replacement book or a full refund within 30 days of purchase. If your cookbook was personalized, it is not returnable.

The book came yesterday and I’ve decided to return it. What do I need to do to get a credit on my credit card?

Be sure to return the book in its original packing materials. We will pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error.

The packing slip included with your order has a Return Label that you can use to ship your package back to us. Please fill out the Return section of the packing slip and return it inside the package.

The book arrived yesterday and the cover is ripped. What do I do? I can’t give it to my mother in this condition.
