These Sundried Tomato Turkey Burgers are super moist and flavorful on their own, and are even more scrumptious with the addition of a Lemon-Green Onion Sauce!

  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Sundried Tomato Turkey Burgers

  • 1/2 cup chopped shallots (around 1 large)
  • 1/4 cup chopped drained oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes (around 2 to 3 ounces)
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup Panko (or homemade) breadcrumbs
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil (or 2 teaspoons dried)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Fresh ground pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable or canola oil, for grilling

Lemon-Green Onion Sauce

  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt (I use nonfat, but any will work) – can also use sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onion (white, light green and some of the dark green portion)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Fresh ground pepper, to taste

For Serving

  • 6 hamburger buns – I prefer pretzel or brioche
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced fresh tomatoes
  • Sliced red onion

Instructions

Sundried Tomato Turkey Burgers

  1. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the shallots, sundried tomatoes, garlic, breadcrumbs, mustard, basil, Worcestershire sauce and beaten egg. Using your hands, blend in ground turkey until well mixed. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Form turkey mixture into 6 patties around 1/2 to 3/4-inch thick and place on a cookie sheet. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Lemon-green onion sauce

  1. While the burgers are resting in the refrigerator, make the sauce: in a small mixing bowl, stir together the yogurt (or sour cream), mayonnaise, green onion, lemon zest and lemon juice. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate.

Cooking and serving

  1. Preheat grill on medium-high.
  2. Once hot, carefully oil grill grates.
  3. Grill turkey patties for 5 minutes; flip and continue cooking until an instant read thermometer inserted in the middle reached 165 degrees, around 4 to 5 more minutes.
  4. Serve immediately on hamburger buns with Lemon-Green Onion Sauce, lettuce, sliced tomato and sliced red onion.

Notes

Make ahead: Burgers can be prepared but not grilled earlier in the day, covered and refrigerated. Lemon-Green Onion Sauce can be prepared up to 2 days in advance, covered and refrigerated.
