More About the Author
Sometimes, food is simply fuel to feed a busy life. At other times, it is the foundation for the family table where a shared meal allows us to reconnect and renew our relationships bite-by-bite. A Well-Seasoned Kitchen is more than a collection of recipes – it is a treasury of ideas, menus and best-loved meals for all cooks who cherish creating delicious fare to nourish relationships with family and friends.
A Well-Seasoned Kitchen is a loving collaboration of mother and daughter, Sally Clayton and Lee Clayton Roper, everyday home gourmet cooks who are known for their effortless style and smart sensibility when it comes to home cooking and entertaining. So, when Sally began to suffer from the early effects of osteoporosis and early-stage memory loss, it was natural for Lee to engage her mother by evoking family memories of their shared times in the kitchen. The result of their efforts is a cookbook full of classic recipes for today’s contemporary cook – the one who seeks simple, delicious and beautiful fare that is perfect for casual and everyday entertaining.
The cookbook features more than 180 recipes, planning menus and helpful tips on 272 pages that feature mouth watering photos of many of Sally and Lee’s favorite dishes. From crowd-pleasing appetizers and hearty soups to inspired weeknight meals and spoon-licking desserts , the book features recipes that are equally suited to a casual family meal and entertaining a crowd for a special event.
More about the authors Sally Clayton and Lee Clayton Roper
Sally and Lee are everyday home gourmet cooks who’ve always been ahead of their time.
Sally earned cooking credibility as one of the first to add a food processor and microwave to her gadget repertoire long before most has even heard of them. Originally from Kentucky, Sally was raised in a home with parents who frequently entertained and a mother who loved to cook. Interestingly, Sally didn’t start cooking until after she was married. Despite that, she made an effortless leap from meatloaf to Boeuf Bourguignon and quickly earned a reputation as a talented cook and gracious hostess among friends and family.
Sally’s culinary courage inspired Lee to hold her first dinner party at the tender age of 16. Today, Lee regularly finds opportunities to host family and friends for casual dinner parties with beautiful tablescapes, creative menus and scrumptious meals taking center stage. With any cooking-related questions, friends and family often turn to Lee for her unending kitchen inspiration and encouragement.
Together, Sally and Lee created A Well-Seasoned Kitchen to celebrate their special bond that had food at its center. Sadly, Sally passed just as the cookbook entered its final phase. It is written in her honor.
